This is the astonishing moment a hero police officer risked his life to save a woman as she tried to jump from a bridge into freezing cold water. The polis spotted the woman sitting on a ledge on a bridge, before kneeling down and speaking to her through a small gap. He tried to build up a rapport with her - and although she decided to jump, he managed to take hold of her. However, the force of the woman falling pulled him over and down towards the river.
But his colleagues a policeman and a police woman managed to haul both him and the woman to safety - with the aid of a firefighter who had just finished dealing with a nearby incident.
The police man said, ‘I was running through in my head what I was going to do next. I knew I had a major fight on my hands to stay alive and do my best to help the lady when we both hit the water.
‘It was at this point I felt someone grab hold of my ankles just as I was going past the point of no return. This stopped myself and the lady from continuing our journey into the river.’
After being taken to safety following the incident,the woman was treated by Ambulance Service paramedics.
